Bird Walk Tour Available for Adults and Interested Youth
Berkshire Township is rich in local bird life and spring migration brings colorful visitors, too. Enjoy migratory and local breeding birds on a Berkshire Township Bird Walk. Meet at the Township Hall on Tuesday evening, May 22, 6:00PM until dusk or Wednesday May 23, 6:00PM to dusk. (You need to RSVP so we can plan.) Spaces are limited, and if Tuesday fills up we will do Wednesday.
Berkshire resident Tom Bain will guide us as we check out the birds around the Township Hall then take a short drive to the Hoover Mudflats Boardwalk. The area is a lush green space and migrant trap which attracts interesting birds as they stop to rest and feed on their way north during May. The Boardwalk offers great views of water birds and even nesting Ospreys, one of Ohio’s larger birds of prey.
Tom is a life-long birder who has guided bird walks for thirty years and worked in volunteer and professional bird surveys for state and federal agencies. Tom served as volunteer guide and Bird Conservation Chair with The Ohio Ornithological Society for eight years.
PLEASE RSVP to Berkshire.Shawna@gmail.com so we can plan. Bring binoculars if you have them, it’s ok if you don’t. No small children, please, this is geared towards adults and older kids who are interested in birding.

WE NEED GARDEN VOLUNTEERS

SENIOR APPLIANCE PICKUP SERVICE NOW AVAILABLE
DELAWARE, Oh. – The Senior Appliance Pickup service, funded by SourcePoint, is again available to adults 55 and older looking to rid themselves of any electronics and appliances. Collection will occur through the end of May and start again in September or until funding is depleted.

P.S. Two new trash receptacles have been added on the main path to help keep your garden clean and free of litter.

This year, residents are limited to one screen per household (TV or other type of monitor). Multiples of other electronics and appliances are accepted.

The pickup service was developed to prevent injuries that could be sustained from lifting or falling while trying to move appliances or computer components. The Health District contracts with a moving company to pick up large, bulky or heavy items from a resident’s home and deliver them to Friction Metals. This service also allows for many of the materials to be recycled rather than go directly to a landfill.
In 2017, 5,709 pounds of electronics and 6,500 pounds of appliances were picked up with this program.
For more information, contact Keep Delaware County Beautiful coordinator Jenifer Way-Young at 740-203-2076.

What's New at the Township Playground?

Looks like warm weather is finally here to stay. Bring the kids over to check out the new log climbing tower at the playground. They can also walk the Born Learning Trail, play hopscotch or "check out" a book at the Berkshire Book Nook. Let them blow off some steam and have fun outdoors.
